Have you ever tried a Japanese crepe cake? It is made of many thin crepe layers alternating with lightly sweetened cream. You might be familiar with the famous brand Lady M, which offers mille crepes in flavors like green tea, purple yam, jasmine calamansi, and many other unique varieties. Lady M’s slice is on the pricier side, often around $12, so it was exciting to see a frozen crepe cake available at Costco. Keep reading to find out whether I thought the Costco Japanese crepe cake was a hit or a miss.

Product Overview
Each box of the crepe cake was $20.99 and contained 12 individually wrapped slices, separated by plastic liners. The box was in the frozen section, so you need to thaw it before serving. Each slice features 9 thin layers of crepe. This product is gluten-free and made with sweetened condensed Hokkaido Milk.

What is Japanese Crepe Cake?
It is often called a mille crepe cake, taken from the French word mille, meaning “a thousand.” It is a Japanese dessert inspired by French pastry techniques. The cake consists of stacked thin layers of crepes with lightly sweetened cream in between. Lady M, a New York bakery, popularized crepe cakes, which are now found in Japanese cafes around the world.
Costco Japanese Crepe Cake Rating and Review
The crepe layers were thin and smooth, and the whipped cream was fluffy and not too sweet. Each bite of the crepe cake was soft and melted in your mouth. However, the bottom layer was a cake layer that was quite dry. I wished it were more moist. Each slice was a good size, perfect for a single serving. At $21 per box, that’s about $1.75 per slice, which is much cheaper than a slice at a cafe. If you enjoy light, not-too-sweet desserts, this is a must-try. It would pair perfectly with a cup of hot tea. The package instructs you to keep the crepe cake frozen and to defrost the whole cake in the fridge for a minimum of 6 hours or a slice for 3 hours when ready to serve. It needs to be consumed within 3 days of thawing. DO NOT REFREEZE.
