Freeze-dried candy has been trending for the past few years, but I never got the chance to try it until I spotted some on the shelves at Trader Joe’s. If you are not familiar, freeze-drying is a unique dehydration process that preserves food by freezing it and then removing the ice through sublimation (turning it directly into vapor). The result? Food that transforms into light, crispy, melt-in-your-mouth bites. Curious how it tastes? Read on for my review of Trader Joe’s watermelon freeze dried candy!

Trader Joe’s Watermelon Freeze Dried Candies Overview
It comes in vibrant, colorful packaging with a zip-lock closure. One pack costs $3.99 and contains 1.5 oz or (43g). However, more than half of the bag was just air.

Rating and Review
I personally thought it was a fun treat. The texture is similar to Cheeto puffs, and when you bite into it, it gently fizzes in your mouth. It has a tart, strong artificial watermelon flavor and leans on the sweeter side. It is airy, crispy, and overall a playful snack. Although the pack is only 1.5 oz and priced at $3.99, it is actually below the average cost compared to other freeze-dried candy brands. This product is definitely a hit. Another plus: the different colors come from natural ingredients like spirulina extract and turmeric—no artificial dyes!
