If you know me, you know fish and chips are one of my all-time favorite bar foods. And one of my guilty pleasures is a box of Gorton’s crispy battered fish fillets straight from the freezer aisle. So when I spotted the Sea Cuisine battered fish strips at Costco, I had to grab a box and put them to the test. Can they compete with my go-to favorite? Let’s find out how these Sea Cuisine battered fish strips stack up. Is it a hit or a miss?

Product Overview
A box was $12.99 with 8 servings per container. Each serving is around 2.5 pieces. It is full of Alaska polluck in a crunchy better batter with the taste of Guinness stout. It has a certified sustainable seafood MSC label. This seafood comes from a fishery that has been independently certified to the MSC’s environmental standard for fishing. msc.org. MSC-C-50522.

Rating and Review
Each piece was much smaller than I expected, so the 2.5 pieces per serving size makes more sense once you see them. The beer batter, however, did not crisp up the way I hoped. I tend to prefer brands like Gorton’s because their coating gets noticeably crunchier. Since these fillets were on the smaller side, the batter-to-fish ratio felt a bit too heavy for me. That said, there is a pleasant barley aftertaste from the beer batter that adds a subtle depth of flavor. It is not bad by any means, but it is also not impressive enough for me to repurchase. On the positive side, the value is great — the box comes with a full 2 pounds of product at a very reasonable price, which makes it budget-friendly for families or quick meals.
