Imagine fusing the popular Hong Kong French Toast breakfast with a popular Thai tea drink into one new fusion item. The French toast soaks up the spiced flavors from the star anise, and cardamom makes the French toast fragrant and more complex in flavors. I made this into an air fryer recipe to make it healthier.
What is Thai Tea?
Thai tea originated in Thailand and is brewed Ceylon black tea often with spices like star anise, cardamon. It is also a popular drink often found in Thai restaurants in the U.S. It is usually enjoyed with half & half and sweetened with condensed milk or sugar.
What is Hong Kong French Toast?
Hong Kong French toast is a popular dish in Hong Kong that consists of fluffy milk bread with a peanut butter filling, coated in egg, and shallow-fried in oil. It is usually served with butter and drizzled condensed milk on top. The exterior is crispy and golden-brown.
Ingredients:
Peanut Butter
Bread: Traditionally, milk bread is used to make this dish, but I did not have any on hand. I used normal bread from an American grocery store and added three slices to make it thicker. If you have milk bread, two slices are good enough
Egg
Thai Tea: I made one cup worth of Thai Tea. I linked the Pantai brand which is the most common one used in Thai restaurants.
Condensed Milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
