Chinese Sausage Origin
Chinese sausage, known as lap cheong (Cantonese) or làcháng (Mandarin), originated in China with a history dating back over 2,000 years. It’s typically made from pork and seasoned with ingredients like soy sauce, then air-cured or smoked to develop its firm texture and signature sweet-and-salty flavor. There are various regional styles across China—Cantonese-style is sweeter and slightly smoky, while Sichuan-style is more savory and spicy.
