Sweet and savory combinations have a way of creating a balanced flavor profile, and they work beautifully across many dishes. Recently, I made a batch of fresh blueberry jam and knew I had to find the perfect pairing for it. The rich, creamy brie immediately came to mind with its subtle flavor that would let the blueberry flavors stand out. This Blueberry Brie Grilled Cheese is a delicious twist on the classic American grilled cheese. Give this recipe a try and let me know what you think!
Grilled Cheese Popularity
The American classic grilled cheese became a popular meal during the Depression due to the financial instability of most Americans. Bread and American cheese were inexpensive ingredients that could create a reasonably nutritious meal.
About Brie
Brie is a soft cow’s milk cheese that originated in the Brie region of France. It has an addictive creamy texture and a pale yellow color, with a white rind. Brie has a mild flavor and is often served at room temperature, as the interior becomes soft and easily spreadable. Since Brie is often enjoyed with fruit jams, I thought it would make a great cheese for a grilled cheese sandwich with blueberry jam.
