Crispy Smash Burger Ingredients
- 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
- 1 whole onion
- Jarlsberg cheese
- Burger buns
- Salt
- Smash Burger Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayo: I like using kewpie mayo.
- 1 tbsp diced pickles
- 2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 2 tsp ketchup
Caramelized Onions Instructions
Slice one whole onion.
Add oil to a pan and heat.
Add onions and sprinkle with salt.
Add 1/2 cup water and bring to a boil.
Lower heat to medium, cover with a lid, and let the water steam off (about 10 minutes).
Stir and let the onions sit for 30 seconds, then repeat. The process will take around 15 minutes.
Crispy Smash Burger Instructions
Toast burger buns in a pan until golden brown.
Divide the ground beef into four 4 oz patties, rolling each into a ball.
Heat a cast iron skillet to 400°F.
Place one beef ball onto the skillet and smash it as flat as possible. Season with salt.
Cook for 2 minutes, then flip the patty and add a slice of Jarlsberg cheese. Cover with a lid to melt the cheese and cook for an additional minute.
Repeat with the remaining patties.
Place two patties with melted cheese on the bottom bun.
Add caramelized onions and sliced pickles.
Spread smash burger sauce on the top bun.
Cover the burger with the top bun.
