Homemade Mango Salsa Ingredients
- 1 ripe mango, diced: If you don’t have mangoes at home, you can swap it for pineapples. The sweetness and tartness of a pineapple make it a great substitute for salsa.
- 1 ripe avocado, diced
- 1 Roma tomato, deseeded and diced: must be deseeded so the salsa does not becomet too watery
- ¼ red onion, finely chopped
- 1 jalapeño, diced (optional for heat): you can also substitute jalapenos for serranos or poblano peppers
- Juice of 1 lime, adjust to taste
- Fresh cilantro, adjust to taste
- Salt, adjust to taste
You can opt out of the jalapeno if you do not like spicy food.
Instructions
Dice all the fresh ingredients: mango, avocado, deseeded tomato, red onion, and jalapeño. Chop the cilantro and cut lime wedges.
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl.

Season with salt and squeeze in lime juice, adjusting to taste.

Mix well and enjoy!

Storage Tips
Store the mango salsa in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. You can squeeze more lime juice to slow the browning process for the diced avocados.
Homemade Mango Salsa Tips
- Use ripe but firm mangoes for the best texture and sweetness. You don’t want mushy mangoes, as the salsa will end up too watery.
- To determine if a mango is ripe enough, gently press on it — it should slightly give under pressure. This same method applies to checking if an avocado is ripe. If the mango isn’t ripe enough, leave it at room temperature for a couple of days to speed up the process. The same goes for avocados.
- You can ripen an avocado faster by placing it in a brown paper bag with an apple or a banana. Fruits like bananas and apples release ethylene gas, which speeds up the ripening process.
- A ripe Hass avocado usually turns dark green, almost black.
- Dice everything into similar-sized pieces for the best bite and easier scooping.
- Let the salsa chill in the fridge for at least ten minutes before eating for best results. This allows the flavors to meld together, making it tastier in every bite.
- Mango salsa can be added to rice bowls, chips, tacos, grilled fish, chicken, steak, or other types of proteins.
