Rice Cooker Gyudon Recipe

Rice Cooker Gyudon is an easy one-pot Japanese beef bowl made with tender beef, sweet onions, and seasoned rice. This simple rice cooker recipe is perfect for busy weeknights and can be topped with soft-boiled eggs and green onions for a comforting, protein-packed meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion thinly sliced
  • 1/2 pound thinly sliced beef
  • 2 cups uncooked rice
  • 2 tsp Dashida powder
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp sake optional
  • 2 –4 eggs
  • Green onions sliced for garnish

Instructions

  • Add the rice to the pot in the rice cooker. Rinse and drain well. Fill with water to the 2-cup rice line.
  • Add the sliced onion, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, Dashida powder, and sake.
  • Start the rice cooker and cook as usual.
  • Meanwhile, prepare soft-boiled eggs for extra protein.
  • About halfway through the cooking cycle, open the rice cooker and add the beef, spreading it evenly over the rice. Close the lid and continue cooking.
  • Once the rice cooker finishes, gently fluff the rice and mix everything together.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions and serve with the soft-boiled eggs.
