A microwave recipe for the viral tanghulu

Ingredients

  • Watermelon sticks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Microwave-safe containers
  • Ice bath

Instructions

  • In a microwave-safe container, combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup water.
  • Microwave the mixture in 30-second increments until it turns a dark amber color, which typically takes around 5 minutes.
  • Carefully remove the container from the microwave using oven mitts, as it will be extremely hot. Transfer to a surface that will not become damage from the heat.
  • Quickly dip a watermelon stick into the hot sugar mixture, ensuring it is fully coated. Be cautious to avoid burns.
  • Immediately place the coated watermelon stick into the ice bath for a minute to set the candy coating.
  • Remove from the ice bath and repeat the process with the remaining watermelon sticks.
