Trader Joe’s recently released these passion fruit meringue tartelettes. Tartelettes are a staple in French pâtisserie. Since passion fruit desserts are hard to find in grocery stores, I knew I had to pick them up. Read on for my thoughts on these Trader Joe’s passion fruit meringue tartelettes.

About Passion Fruit Meringue Tartelettes
Each box contains two tartelettes, packaged in a hard plastic shell to keep them intact. A box costs $4.99. Tartelettes are a classic French dessert, essentially small tarts with a crisp pastry shell, often filled with fruit, cream, or meringue.
Tartelette’s Rating
I really enjoyed the passion fruit curd filling since it wasn’t too sweet, and the strong tartness stood out in a great way. The sweet meringue balanced the tart flavor nicely, and the crust was thick and compact. The passion fruit flavor was bold and I think some people might find it too sour. Overall, I would get it again. Unfortunately, one of my tartelettes was a bit of a letdown—the filling was set properly, making it look incomplete. It seemed like a manufacturing issue. For $2.50 a tartelette, it is pretty good value. It was bigger than what I expected.
