Trader Joe’s has been rolling out a variety of frozen Asian-inspired dishes lately and most have been surprisingly impressive. I’ve only ever had okonomiyaki at restaurants, so I was intrigued to see a frozen version on their shelves. Of course, I had to grab it and give it a try! Read on for my Trader Joe’s okonomiyaki Japanese vegetable pancake review.

About Trader Joe’s Okonomiyaki Japanese Vegetable Pancake
One package of Trader Joe’s Frozen Okonomiyaki Japanese Vegetable Pancake costs $4.99. It includes a frozen pancake, a packet of sauce, and a packet of tuna flakes. ‘Okonomi’ means ‘as you like it,’ and ‘yaki’ means ‘grilled.’ These savory pancakes are popular in Japan and can be made with a variety of proteins, vegetables, and toppings.

Rating
The okonomiyaki came out crispy and golden on the outside, with a soft and dense interior. The cabbage had a nice chew for the texture. The included sauce was savory and sweet with a pleasant tang. Just note that it doesn’t come with Kewpie mayo, so you’ll need to add your own. The tuna flakes were full of flavor, but it might be too fishy for some people.
