The super-viral Dubai chocolate has finally made its way to Trader Joe’s. Dubai chocolate has been one of the biggest food crazes of 2024. It was created by Sarah Hamouda, an entrepreneur in Dubai, inspired by her pregnancy cravings and a desire to incorporate Middle Eastern flavors into artisanal chocolate. Now that Trader Joe’s carries it, I knew I had to try Trader Joe’s Dubai Chocolate and see how it compares to the original.

About Trader Joe’s Dubai Chocolate
The bar costs $3.99 and contains four servings, with each serving size around 25g. It comes wrapped in gold foil.

Rating
The chocolate bar was easy to break apart. I’ve had the original Dubai Chocolate brand, made by the original creator, at an Austin SXSW event, so I’m able to make a fair comparison. The Trader Joe’s Dubai Chocolate has a lower filling-to-chocolate ratio compared to the original. This is understandable, given the price point of just $3.99, which is significantly cheaper than other Dubai chocolate bars I’ve seen.

The flavor profile is spot on: the bittersweet dark chocolate, creamy and nutty pistachio filling, and the crunch from the kataifi all come together nicely. According to Trader Joe’s website, pistachios make up 50% of the filling, which is more than in most other Dubai chocolate bars.

If you think about it, pistachios are a costly ingredient. At $3.99, it is a great value, and I would highly recommend it.
