Buldak instant noodles are definitely among my top three favorite ramen brands. So when I heard they released a new Buldak Tom Yum flavor, I knew I had to try it.
Who made Buldak?
Samyang Foods, the company behind the famous Buldak instant noodles, is a global South Korean food manufacturer. Founded by Jeon Jung Yoon in 1961, Samyang Foods introduced the first ramen noodles to the Korean market, making instant ramen a common household staple in Korea. Samyang’s Buldak series has many flavors, including original, carbonara, curry, kimchi, tomato pasta, and much more.
What is Tom Yum?
Tom Yum is a popular soup in Thailand, known for its bold, sour, and spicy flavors. It is typically made with the following ingredients: lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal (a type of ginger), lime juice, fish sauce, and chili peppers.
Tom Yum Buldak Rating
This flavor is among my top three Buldak flavors. This is my first time trying stewed Buldak ramen, and because of the added water needed for this version, I felt like the spiciness was diluted and wasn’t as intense as other versions, but it is still pretty spicy. You do get three different packets: one with sauce, one with powder, and one with flakes. I love how it was sour and tangy—a combo you can’t go wrong with. Buldak did pretty well with making it taste like tom yum soup. I added shrimp, tomatoes, egg, and mushrooms to the Tom Yum Buldak combo for added substance. It felt like I was eating tom yum hotpot.
