Starbucks is a global household name with drinks like their popular shaken oat milk espresso. When it comes to dessert-style coffee drinks, Starbucks takes the crown. Their customizable drinks are addictively sweet and attract diverse demographics. When the franchise came out with the iced brown sugar shaken oat milk espresso in 2021, not surprisingly, the drink became a hit. With the undertones of brown sugar, the coffee drink became caramel-ly.
Non-Dairy Starbucks Drink
Since this drink consists of oat milk, this becomes a great dairy-free, nut-free alternative drink on the Starbucks’ menu. The oat milk brand that Starbucks uses for its drink recipe is Oat-ly. For me, I couldn’t find Oat-ly branded oat milk in my recent grocery store run, so I decided to pick a different brand. If you’ve never had oat milk before, you’re missing out. The texture is thicker than milk as it gives drinks generally a more creamy feel. Fun fact: Oat-ly marketed its successful brand by first being introduced into coffee shops before grocery stores.
Why this Recipe?
Traditionally, other recipes ask to heat brown sugar and water for a few minutes to create a brown sugar syrup, but I wanted to simplify the recipe. I decided to add brown sugar with simple syrup directly into the caffeinated drink. It will mix well as it melts with the hot espresso.
