Austin’s food scene has been rapidly expanding. I feel like every week, there’s almost always a new restaurant opening. When I first moved here back in 2021, I noticed that Austin was lacking in the boba tea and Asian dessert department. Granted, I was spoiled by the options in the Bay area. When I heard Mochinut was opening a location in Austin, I dropped everything and ran! Here, I will be giving you my Mochinut Austin review.
About Mochinut
Mochinut is a franchise that offers mochi donuts, Korean rice flour hotdogs, and boba. Their signature, unique shape—8 dough balls has attracted many donuts enthusiasts. Mochi donuts originated from Hawaii, and it is the byproduct of American donuts and Japanese mochi or rice cakes.

Cuisine: Dessert
Price: $
Ambiance: super casual since it is in a food court at Hana Market
I had the chance of visiting during the soft opening and it was crazily packed. There was already a decent line 5 minutes after opening. For a half-dozen, it is $16.50; I found this pricing reasonable since the mochi donuts were larger than average from my experiences. Although, it is definitely more on the pricey side compared to regular donuts.
During the soft opening day, I selected the following flavors: Melona, taro pebbles, yuzu strawberry, ube churro, red bean, and funnel cake. I was lucky and got most of the flavors from the fresh batch. The donuts were addictively chewy with a light, crispy exterior. All the flavors were executed so well! For example, the Melona actually tasted like the honey Melona ice cream. You can always check the website for the most updated flavor offerings.
