One day, I had a major craving for burgers. I’ve been on the hunt for the best burger in Austin. I wanted to check out Loro since it popped up as a recommended burger joint on Reddit. According to Yelp, Loro is a smokehouse, Asian fusion, cocktail-bar restaurant. Loro came to be with the Austin masterminds, Uchi, and Franklin BBQ.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was super casual. You seat yourself and then order food at the bar. The outdoor dining patio area had spacious picnic tables with some sections covered with tent coverings.
It’s a pretty cool concept. There were bar food options such as candied kettle corn, wonton chips and dip, and the house pickles. Happy hour is on weekdays from 2-5 PM. Their drink menu ranges from boozy slushes to batch cocktails. I heard the drinks were out of this world at Loro. I need to come back and get an alcoholic Vietnamese ice coffee drink!
Loro’s Rating
Cuisine: Asian Fusion, Cocktail Bar, Smokehouse
Price ($$)
Ambiance: Casual, dog-friendly, great with friends
Smoked Prime Bavette ($18.75): The medium-rare steak was tender and sliced thinly. There were some rich flavors from the shishito salsa verde and the natural smoke.
Loro Cheeseburger ($12):
When I bit into the thick beef patty, I knew right away how high quality it was. The burger had a southern flare with the slight barbecue sweetness from the brisket layer. The red-onion brisket jam added some more
dimension.
Crunchy Corn Fritters ($7.75): An appetizer with an Incredibly crispy outer battered shell and soft sweet corn tidbits inside. The sriracha aioli dipping sauce cut through the heaviness from the fried batter.
My overall thoughts? I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s the best burger in Austin. If I had a list, it wouldn’t rank in my top three burger places in the city. But, I think a visit to Loro is still worthwhile! They have plenty of unique appetizers and entrees.
