My boyfriend and I visited Houston one weekend. We had no expectations when we came across Kata Robota on Yelp. We decided to splurge because we thought to ourselves, how often would we be in Houston? Little did we know that this place would leave a deep footprint in our bellies. What makes it even better is that this place also flies in their fish from Japan multiple times throughout the week!!
Cuisine: Japanese, Asian Fusion
Price: ($$$)
Ambiance: Great for date night, sophisticated
Kata Robota Rating
Miso Lobster Mac and Cheese ($23): This dish was probably the best bang for your buck. This plate, by itself, is enough to fill up one person. The parmesan cheese, Marieke gouda, and Veldhuizen cheddar, were perfect; it was velvety and creamy, but not too heavy. They didn’t skimp out on the lobster pieces because I felt like there was almost always a piece of lobster in every bite.
Scallop Foie Gras Nigiri (MKT): The scallop and foie gras pairing was so buttery. The scallop cut the heavy richness of the foie gras. Truth be told, I’m still dreaming about it to this day.
Wagyu Katsu Sando ($20): The beef instantly melted in my mouth. It had amazing flavoring from its seared surface. Not only that, the Japanese Milk Bread toast was incredibly airy, light, and perfectly toasted.
Green Tea Souffle Cheesecake ($8): This dessert was actually a lot better than what I expected. It wasn’t too sweet. From my experiences, I’ve been to some Japanese souffle cheesecake spots where the taste was overbearingly too eggy to the point it tasted like scramble eggs, but this souffle was a nice balance! I love the addition of the red bean ice cream and chestnut cream. On the other hand, I wouldn’t say this the star of the meal.
Price
This meal was an amazing price. I felt like if we tried these dishes in the bay area, it would have been at least 50% more expensive. I highly recommend this place.
