When I first moved to Austin in 2021, there was only one Korean BBQ option in town. Since then, the KBBQ scene has been growing fast. One of the most well-known chains, GEN Korean BBQ, just opened its doors in Austin. Curious if it lives up to the hype? Here’s my review of GEN KBBQ Austin.

GEN KBBQ Austin Rating
Ambiance: Spacious | Casual | Great spot to eat with friends

Price: $$
Cuisine: Korean
GEN KBBQ’s lunch is priced at $19.95 and includes 30+ menu items. Dinner is $30.95 with access to 40+ items, and for an additional $20, you can upgrade to the premium experience. I opted for the premium tier. All the meats were tender, and cuts like the ribeye had beautiful marbling. Some of the premium items include ribeye, long bone short rib steak, marbled center-cut short rib, and wagyu. They also offered banchan like kimchi, which is refillable.
Although the menu was extensive, I was slightly disappointed that they didn’t offer steamed eggs or corn cheese. The appetizers, like the Korean fried chicken, were tasty but more similar to popcorn chicken. At the time of my visit, the only dessert option available was hotteok.
Here are some photos of the menu item I ordered:
