Mum Foods Rating
Cuisine: American
Price: ($$): To get a good idea of the prices, the 1 meat plate is $17, the 2 meat plate is $24, the 3 meat plate is $32, the brisket sandwich is $14, and The Rachel (pastrami sandwich) is $17.
Ambiance: Casual
Beef Ribs and Brisket: All the meat was seasoned well, fatty, and tender.
Sausage: I thought it was okay. I found the texture a bit crumbly, but everything else was amazing.
Pastrami Sandwich: This is the best pastrami sandwich in Austin by far! I would recommend that people go to Mum Foods for the Rachel or the pastrami sandwich; it is that good!
Chips and Pimento Cheese: The chips were incredibly crispy! It was a great vessel for creamy pimento cheese.
Mac and Cheese: I love large shell noodles for mac and cheese, so that was a plus! The dish was also wonderfully cheesy and creamy.
Best Pastrami Sandwich in Austin Overall Thoughts
Is this the best pastrami sandwich in Austin? Yes, it most definitely is. Mum Foods lives up to the hype. The pastrami was juicy, and the 1/3-pound serving struck a perfect balance with the sourdough rye bread slices, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, and coleslaw. The coleslaw was deliciously light and provided a delightful textural contrast with the pastrami. The house-made sourdough rye bread paired well with the pastrami. Since every component of the sandwich was made in-house, I would say the $17 price tag is justifiable.
