What is Rice Paper?
Rice paper is a thin, translucent sheet made from rice flour and water. Occasionally, tapioca starch is added to enhance elasticity. When dry, it has a brittle and fragile texture that breaks easily. Once soaked, it becomes stretchy and sticky, making it ideal for wrapping. Rice paper is probably most famous as an ingredient for spring rolls.
Ingredients
- 4-5 rice paper: You can add more rice paper sheets for larger portions.
- 3 tbsp neutral oil
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 tbsp chilli flakes
- 1/2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 1/2 tsp sugar
Instructions
Soak the rice paper sheets in warm water.
Lightly brush each sheet with oil, then stack them neatly on top of each other.
Cut the stacked sheets into thin strips to create your rice paper noodles.
In a mixing bowl, combine minced garlic, chili flakes, rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame seeds, and sugar.
Add the rice paper noodles to the bowl and toss them thoroughly in the sauce.
Heat some oil until it is sizzling hot, then pour it over the mixture to infuse the flavors.
Give everything a final mix, and your dish is ready to enjoy!
