NEW item alert for Trader Joe’s—Trader Joe’s just dropped their new Japanese souffle cheesecake in the freezer section. As a souffle cheesecake fanatic, you know I have to check it out ASAP.
Differences between Japanese and American Cheesecakes
American cheesecakes are known for their dense, decadent texture and sweeter flavor profile, while Japanese cheesecakes offer a lighter, more refreshing bite. American cheesecakes typically contain higher amounts of sugar and butter, contributing to their richness, whereas Japanese cheesecakes have more of an airy texture from whipped egg whites, resulting in a fluffy consistency.
Trader Joe’s Japanese Souffle Cheesecake Rating
Each cheesecake pack comes with two single-serving cheesecakes for $3.29, making it $1.65 per cheesecake. The cheesecake is light, airy, and not too sweet. I could easily eat two in one sitting because they are so light. After defrosting, the quality is pretty much on par with soufflé cheesecakes you can find in Asian bakeries or other Japanese souffle cheesecakes in grocery stores. I would definitely get this again; it satisfies the sweet craving without being too indulgent. It might be a little bland to some people, but adding condiments like strawberry jam, a scoop of ice cream, or fresh fruits will definitely enhance it. The only downside to this delicious treat is that you need to thaw the cheesecakes for 3-4 hours for them to fully soften.
