Portuguese custard tarts are one of my favorite baked goods. The creamy filling exudes a perfect blend of custardy creaminess, which counters well with the extremely flakey crust. As an avid Costco shopper, I knew I had to get my hands on them when I found out they were selling La Vie Gourmand Portuguese Custard tarts!
What is a Portuguese Custard Tart (Pasteis de Nata)?
Portuguese Custard Tart or pasteis de nata was created by a monastery in Belem, Lisbon, since it is common for monasteries to use leftover egg yolks for baking. Portuguese custard tarts are made with a flakey puff pastry crust and custardy, sweet filling. The top of the custard tarts are typically scorched because they are baked at incredibly high temperatures.
La Vie Gourmand Portuguese Custard Tarts Costco Rating
I only went by the air fryer instructions but without fail it always came super flakey. The filling and delicate puff pastry crust were a great ratio. The custard fill was creamy and not too sweet. Each box contains 6 pieces for each layer, making it 12 pieces. At a reasonable price of $9.49 for 12 pieces, you should give it a shot.
