It was during the pandemic that I tried my first birria tacos. When I first bit into one, I immediately fell in love with the rich flavors of the meat stewed filling. Ever since then, it’s become one of my guilty pleasures. Making birria is time-consuming, so seeing an easy-to-cook birria frozen pack is great. I will be giving my Trader Joe’s birria review.
What is Birria?
Birria is a braised meat stew, originating from the state of Jalisco in Mexico. It is time-consuming to make since the meats are slow-cooked to obtain that tenderness. The most popular form of birria in Mexico is goat meat. Since goat meat isn’t as popular in the United States, beef is the most popular variant.

The meat was pretty tender but my only complaint was that it wasn’t as rich in flavor as the birria I’ve tried at restaurants. It wasn’t as noticeable when I made birria tacos from the meat and garnished it with chopped white onions, cilantro, and lime juice.
